1. General information
The goal of this subject is for the student to acquire a general knowledge of the evolution of EU policies and actions . We learn to assess regional development strategies in the European Union and to evaluate their territorial impacts. Students are introduced to the evaluation of regional development initiatives. Regional development strategies are analyzed, preferablyin, and case studies from Spain are examined in depth.
These approaches and goals are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda 4, 5, 10, 11, 13 and 16.
Student attendance and active participation in all scheduled teaching activities is recommended.
2. Learning results
The student, in order to pass this subject, must demonstrate the following results...
* Identify and characterize the territorial imbalances that exist in the European Union, which are manifested at different scales.
* To explain the evolution of the European Union's policies and actions from its beginnings to the present day * To identify the principles on which the European Union's regional development policies and proposals are based * To assess the territorial impact of these policies, strategies and actions, especially in Spain and Aragon * Manage the most significant evaluation methodologies of these strategies
* Propose alternative solutions to the European Union's regional development proposals
* Perform responsibly the tasks that correspond to them as members of a work team
* Present orally and in writing the results of the work carried out
3. Syllabus
Unit 1. The basic concepts of territorial policies and strategies and regional development. Territorial competitiveness
Unit 2. The evolution of territorial policies and strategies in Europe. Structural Funds, Objectives and Instruments.
Unit 3. Rural development policies and agents.
Unit 4. Case studies. Best practices.
4. Academic activities
The program offered to the student to help them achieve the expected results includes the following activities:
Theoretical classes
Practical classes and seminars
Field work
Supervised practical work
Personal study.
Passing evaluation tests
5. Assessment system
Test 1. Individual exam of several questions on the contents of the syllabus, theory and practice (35%).
Test 2. Learning portfolios. Delivery and presentation in the classroom of 3 practices, elaborated in groups of two or three students. Each practice must include at least one self-made map. Their weighting in the overall grade will be 45%, 15% each. The grade for each practical will be obtained from the average grade of the elaboration and presentation.
Test 3. Delivery and presentation of a practice of evaluation of good practices of territorial development in the European Union . It will be done individually or in groups of 2 students. 20% of the final grade.
Students who have not been able to do the internship in a group will have to do it individually.
Assessment criteria: Quality of contents, information management, adequate use of bibliography and presentation formal, originality, synthesis and expressive richness.
