1. General information
The goal of the subject is, on the one hand, to introduce students to the theoretical study of literature, so that they can not only understand and describe its nature, but also recognise its formal, thematic, structural and discursive characteristics; and, on the other hand, to offer the future teacher specific instruments for the analysis and understanding of literary texts in their generic framework and in their historical and cultural context.
2. Learning results
The student, upon passing this subject, demonstrates the following results:
1. Argues the concept of Literature and explains the difficulties of its delimitation, as well as lists and describes the different components of the literary fact.
2. Recognizes and classifies the creative resources of Literature according to their nature and function, with special reference to Spanish and Hispanic texts.
3. Describes the most relevant features of the different genres and recognizes the generic adscription of Spanish and Hispanic literary texts.
4. Analyzes the components of the literary work and assesses the relevance and significant relevance of literary resources in Spanish and Hispanic literary texts.
5. It uses the sources of knowledge and fundamental references for the learning of Literature and the initiation in the scientific work on the subject.
3. Syllabus
Definition and boundaries of Literature.
Criteria to determine the features of Literature.
Functions of literature.
The literary fact: literature as an act of communication.
Perspectives of study of the literary fact: from Stylistics to Ecocriticism.
Rhetorical figures and other resources of poetic language.
Phonic and literary resources at a morphological or semantic level.
Literary genres. Criteria for the definition of literary genres. Value and functions of literary genres, with special attention to the Hispanic case.
Analysis and understanding of the literary work.
4. Academic activities
The program offered to the student to help him/her achieve the expected results comprises the following activities:
Master classes (30 hours): Theoretical explanation of the contents of the program by the professor.
Practical classes (30 hours):
1. Analysis of materials aimed at the theoretical delimitation and characterization of the literary fact.
2. Exercises to identify literary techniques and resources from short Spanish literary fragments or texts and.
3. Projection of audiovisual documents, with pertinent commentaries.
Jobs (45 hours).
Individual study (40 hours).
Assessment tests (5 hours)
5. Assessment system
The student must demonstrate achievement of the intended learning results through the following assessment activities:
A. A written test of a global nature, of a theoretical-practical type. The different weight of the theoretical questions and the practical questions will be proportionate to the type of activities developed during the term. The grade of this exam will account for 70% of the final grade.
B. Work linked to practical classes. The grade for this work will account for 10% of the final grade.
C. A check on compulsory readings. The grade for this exercise will account for 20% of the final grade.
In all the activities proposed, clarity in the exposition and appropriateness in the use of the language will also be valued.
In order to pass the subject, the grade of each of the evaluable activities must be equal or higher than 5 points (out of a possible 10).
Students who opt for the global evaluation will carry out the same evaluation activities as the rest of the students, with the exception of the work related to the practical classes.
Students who are in their 5th or 6th year will carry out the same assessment activities as the rest of the students, with the exception of the work linked to the practical classes, these activities being assessed by the panel appointed for this purpose by the Area of Spanish Literature.
Finally, it must be taken into account that the Regulations of the Rules of Coexistence of the University of Zaragoza will apply to irregularities committed in the assessment tests through academic fraud, as well as the application of article 30 of the Regulations of the Rules of Learning Assessment in relation to irregular practices other thanacademic fraud.
