1. General information
The general goal of this subject is the study of the components, structure and dynamics of the geographical bases of the Spanish territory , from an integrative perspective. It is facilitated to know, handle and interpret the sources of information linked to this geographic study.
These approaches and goals are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda :

Goal 10: Reduction of Inequalities
11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

The subject is integrated in module 1 "Fundamentals" of the curriculum of the Degree in Geography, within the subject "Regional Structures".
2. Learning results
In order to pass this subject, the students shall demonstrate they has acquired the following results:
- Describe the natural, human and economic factors that organize the territorial structure of Spain, being able to analyze, characterize and interpret the different elements that integrate them.
- Apply the general concepts of geography to specific territorial units, explaining the processes and structural changes that characterize them.
- Demonstrate and argue the interrelationships between the different elements of the territory in Spain, from the point of view of the physical, human and economic environment.
- Explain the basic processes of territorial organization, based on the use of concepts and instruments at different scales.
- To recognize the territorial repercussions derived from the current organization of the state and the socioeconomic repercussions related to the integration into the European Union.
- To correctly use the methods of territorial analysis at a regional scale, as a basis for its subsequent application to spatial and environmental planning.
- Search, select, interpret and critically evaluate the different sources of information available on the Spanish territory.
- Correctly present the work carried out in teams
3. Syllabus
The agenda is as follows.
Block I. The biophysical environment:
1.1. Relief.
1.2. Climates.
1.3. Vegetation.
1.4. Waters.
1.5 Natural areas and environmental protection.
Block II. The Human Environment:
1.1. Population.
1.2. Rural and urban territories.
1.3. Spatial organization of the economic system in a globalized context.
1.4- Environmental consequences of economic activity.
4. Academic activities
The programmed activities are based on theoretical expositions and practical sessions carried out in the classroom by the teamwork and a participative and proactive individual attitude are essential.
The activities to achieve the goals of the subject, according to the program presented are:
Theoretical sessions, in the form of a master class, promoting student participation.
Practical sessions, led by the teacher for the presentation of case studies.
Individual student study.
Tutored practical work, consisting of individualized guidance of students and groups in the development of practical work.
Special practices (field trip).
5. Assessment system
- Learning portfolio: made up of theoretical and practical exercises based on the contents of the classroom sessions.
The ability to associate and synthesize, as well as the order and clarity of written expression will be prioritized in the evaluation.
Contribution to the final grade in continuous assessment: 30%; in global evaluation: a practical exercise agreed with the teacher, 10%.
- Elaboration of a team/individual work: writing and oral presentation of a course work on a regional ensemble recognizable on a national scale. The quality of contents, handling of sources, treatment of statistical and cartographic data , and the presentation of the work will be valued. Contribution to the final grade in continuous and global evaluation : 20%.
- Completion of a final exam: written test with open questions on theoretical and theoretical-practical contents. will evaluate the capacity of interrelation of territorial contents, precision, rigor, clarity and order in the written expression . Contribution to the final grade in continuous assessment: 50%; in global evaluation: 70%.
The subject cannot be passed if a grade of at least 5 out of 10 is not obtained in each of the three evaluable parts.
