1. General information

The purpose of this course is for the student to acquire the necessary knowledge to qualitatively study the systems that evolve with respect to a time variable and that present different parameters. Discrete and continuous dynamical systems will be studied, and the basic tools for their analysis, both theoretical and numerical, will be given.

2. Learning results

  • Recognize a dynamical system both in discrete and continuous time.
  • Extract information about the qualitative behavior of a dynamical system.
  • Analyze the stability of equilibrium points and periodic orbits of a dynamical system.
  • Identify and classify bifurcations.
  • Determine when the behavior of a dynamical system is chaotic.
  • Model dynamical systems that come from physics, biology or engineering.

4. Academic activities

Master classes: 30 hours.
Problem solving: 15 hours.
Computer classes: 15 hours.
Study: 87 hours.
Assessment tests: 3 hours.

5. Assessment system

  • Delivery of exercises (theoretical-practical) resolved on the scheduled dates and/or writing and oral presentation of a paper (20%).
  • Carrying out exercises in class on the blackboard (20%).
  • Delivery of reports with the results obtained in the practical sessions with the computer, suitably written (60%).

If the number of students were very high, the evaluation would consist of a test that would account for 50% of the mark and the previous activities the remaining 50%. All this without prejudice to the right that, according to current regulations, assists the student to present himself and, where appropriate, pass the subject by taking an overall test.

1. Información básica de la asignatura

Esta asignatura tiene como finalidad que el estudiante adquiera los conocimientos necesarios para estudiar de forma cualitativa sistemas que evolucionan con respecto a una variable temporal y que presentan distintos parámetros. Se estudiarán sistemas dinámicos discretos y continuos, y se darán las herramientas básicas para su análisis, tanto teórico como numérico.

2. Resultados de aprendizaje

  • Reconocer un sistema dinámico tanto en tiempo discreto como continuo.
  • Extraer información sobre el comportamiento cualitativo de un sistema dinámico.
  • Analizar la estabilidad de puntos de equilibrio y órbitas periódicas de un sistema dinámico.
  • Identificar y clasificar bifurcaciones.
  • Determinar cuándo el comportamiento de un sistema dinámico es caótico.
  • Modelizar sistemas dinámicos que provienen de la física, la biología o la ingeniería.

  3. Puntos de equilibrio.
  4. Órbitas periódicas.

  7. Aplicaciones.

4. Actividades académicas

Clases magistrales: 30 horas.
Resolución de problemas y casos: 15 horas.
Prácticas informatizadas: 15 horas.
Estudio: 87 horas.
Pruebas de evaluación: 3 horas.

5. Sistema de evaluación

  • Entrega de ejercicios (teórico-prácticos) resueltos en las fechas previstas y/o redacción y exposición oral de un trabajo (20%).
  • Realización de ejercicios en clase en pizarra (20%).
  • Entrega de informes con los resultados obtenidos en las sesiones de prácticas con ordenador convenientemente redactados (60%).

Si el número de alumnos fuera muy elevado la evaluación consistiría en una prueba escrita que supondría un 50% de la nota y las actividades anteriores el 50% restante. Todo ello sin menoscabo del derecho que, según la normativa vigente, asiste al estudiante para presentarse y, en su caso, superar la asignatura mediante la realización de una prueba global.
