1. General information
The subject and its expected results respond to the following approaches and goals:
1. Be able to communicate in a basically appropriate way in written and oral form adapting to the audience and the purpose of the discourse in different professional and academic contexts.
2. Develop appropriate written and oral communication strategies and techniques in German in order to prepare, process, interpret and present (briefly) data.
These goals are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda
- 4: Quality Education.
- 5: Gender Equality.
- 10: Reduction of Inequalities
Previous knowledge of the German language approaching level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is required.
2. Learning results
The student, in order to pass this subject, must demonstrate the following results...
- Know and use technical and business terminology relevant to their academic (master's degree) and professional context.
- Use with a reasonable level of accuracy the most recurrent grammatical functions and structures in technical and business communication.
- Extract specific information from documents in the field of engineering and architecture, capturing their content with relative facility, so that it can be used selectively.
- Interact in writing in the professional environment being able to understand and write letters, mails, CVs..
- Participate in oral interactions in their professional field, such as telephone conversations, understanding their interlocutors, although sometimes with effort, and expressing themselves with clarity and reasonableaccuracy.
- Participate in mobility programs and international projects related to their discipline.

1. Neu im Job: Erster Arbeitstag - sich vorstellen - Einstellungsbestätigung - Personalfragebogen - Duzen oder Siezen - Formalitäten beim Arbeitsbeginn - Arbeitskleidung - Funktionen und Zuständigkeiten im Betrieb - Um Hilfe bitten - Zum Einstand einladen.
2. Arbeitsalltag: Lageplan - Arbeitsmaterial - Informationen - Notizen machen - Am Telefon nachfragen - Probleme benennen un Lösungen vorschlagen - Reklamationsschreiben - E-Mails.
3. Colleagues, Chefs and Customers: Nach Arbeitsmitteln und Werkzeugen fragen - Um etwas bitten - Mündliche Anweisungen verstehen und Nachfragen - Schriftliche Anweisungen verstehen - Produkte beschreiben - Über Berufwünsche sprechen, einfache Stellenanzeigen verstehen- Sich am Telefon bewerben, nachfragen.

4. Academic activities
The subject has a fundamentally applied orientation, alternating time dedicated to explaining theoretical aspects with their practical application. In the distribution of the 4 ECTS credits, 57.50 hours of personal study are proposedappropriate to the learning styles and levels of each student.
In the learning process, the student's role will be eminently active, whether in groups or individually.
This subject focuses largely on the 4 parts of the new reference manual Treffpunkt Beruf (A2), but in addition, it is based on original materials provided by the teacher.
5. Assessment system
Continuous Assessment
The students have to prepare a dossier (10%) in which they will include:
- the weekly computer exercises, already corrected
- self-made grammar charts
- photocopies to be handed out in the classroom
- maps of the 4 German-speaking countries
Students will have to upload the proposed practices to moodle on a weekly basis. (20% of the grade)
Students have to take part in at least 3 oral presentations (20%) either individually, in pairs or in groups.
At the end of the four-month period, an oral interview (50%) will be held in German with the teacher in which the dossier will be commented on and analysed and a dialogue will be held in which some of the different communicative situations that have been worked on during the term will be staged.}
It will be mandatory to complete ALL assessment activities. In order to pass the subject it will be necessary to obtain 50% of the total . The different tests or activities may be offset against each other.
Overall assessment
- Listening comprehension. (20% of the grade)
- Comprehension of a written text on one of the topics covered in class. (30% of the grade)
- Production of a short essay related to a topic covered in class. (20% of the grade)
- Oral test that will consist of improvising a dramatization of one of the communicative situations of the program. (20%) - Exercise of a grammatical nature. (10%)
