1. General information
The main objective of the subject is to provide the student with the basic general knowledge on which the treatment of orofacial pain is based. This will help students as professionals to diagnose and treat complex cases of orofacial pain that they may encounter in their daily clinical practice. Most of the clinical demands that the patients request in a dental office, are to solve problems of referred pain in the oral cavity.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), so that the acquisition of learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement:

The student, in order to pass this subject, will have tó demonstrate the following results...
To know the physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms involved in orofacial pain. Identify the different types of pain and the diagnostic and therapeutic orientation of orofacial pain.
Know the mechanisms and models of pain of dental or intraoral origin, and its clinical and therapeutic considerations and use analgesic drugs in the treatment of pain effectively, safely and comfortably. Apply minimally invasive techniques in the treatment of orofacial pain.
Assess the experience and the moment in which a patient with orofacial pain should receive specialized treatment.

4. Academic activities
Theoretical classes We will use the participatory master class will, since it is undoubtedly very appropriate for low cognitive level objectives.
Seminars. It will be used in the format of theoretical-practical workshops given by the teacher or by invited speakers to deepen the topics of special interest. The PBL technique will also be used in these seminars, in order to promote the participation and reasoning of the students on topics related to the subject.
Practical classes. These activities will bring the student closer to the daily clinical practice that they may encounter, when they become clinical professionals.
Group work. The work will includé literature search and review, writing and oral presentation in the classroom.
5. Assessment system
1.- Final exam (60% of the grade):
The final evaluation test of the theoretical contents will be carried out by means of questionnaires including multiple-choice questions [n=15 (each teacher) x 3 (teachers) = 45 questions) and 2 open questions (each teacher). 30 correct questions are required to pass the exam. A partial exam may be taken, which will be eliminatory.
Partial exam: 3 midterms (20% each)
- 15 multiple-choice questions, subtracting the effect of chance (50%)
- 2 open-ended questions (50%)
In order to pass the test and therefore eliminate topics, at least 45% of the maximum grade must be obtained in each of the three parts of the test and also their arithmetic average must be at least 50% of the maximum grade.
2.- Evaluation of the practices (30% of the grade):
Active class attendance and participation and case studies uploaded to the ADD that students have to solve individually . Students who do not achieve a 5 in the evaluation of the practical activities or who have more than 2 absences will take a practical exam together with the final exam.
In order to pass the subject, it is mandatory to pass each part separately.
