1. General information
The general goal focuses on content related to major environmental issues, under the following premises: 1) to consider the environmental system as a territorial resource and as a limiting, vulnerable, risk or localization factor; 2) to study nature, its structure and alteration processes as a basis for territorial management.
The subject is part of the subject "Territorial Management of the natural environment: in-depth study", within module 2 of Applications, once the student has acquired the conceptual and instrumental foundations of geographical knowledge, which allows him/her to understand the complex interactions that characterize natural systems and provides relevant information for territorial management.

2. Learning results
In order to pass this subject, the students shall demonstrate they has acquired the following results:
1. To value the complexity of human-environment relations at the present time and throughout history as generators of environmental and territorial processes and problems.
2. Analyze environmental problems and their repercussions on the natural, social and economic environment.
3. To know the environment as an object of study, research and theoretical and practical intervention.
4. Apply a global, integrated and systemic approach to the processes of analysis and management of environmental issues and conflicts.
5. To develop a knowledge and attitude favorable to the introduction of environmental elements and processes in the decision making process in territorial management.
6. Select, interpret and critically evaluate different sources of information on environmental issues.
7. Proper use of terms related to the environment.
3. Syllabus
The foreseen syllabus for this subject is the following:
1. Conceptual aspects of the environment: basic definitions and fundamentals.
2. Evolutionary stages in the human-nature relationship. Patterns of societal development.
3. Environmental degradation processes.
4. Environmental risks.
5. Environmental awareness and culture of sustainability.
4. Academic activities
The learning process designed for this subject has a theoretical-practical orientation. In its development , both teamwork and the students' participative attitude are of great importance. The program offered includes the following activities:
1. Theoretical sessions, in the form of a master class.
2. Practical sessions led by the professor for the presentation of case studies.
3. Tutored practical work, consisting of individualized monitoring and guidance of students and groups in the development of course work.

Continuous assessment
1. Written test on the theoretical, conceptual and methodological aspects of the different thematic blocks (50%).
2. Performance and presentation of a paper on an environmental problem (30%)
3. Practical activities: presentation of reports and exercises (20%)
The course cannot be passed if a grade of at least 5 is not obtained in test 1
Criteria: quality of contents, information management, adequate use of bibliography and formal presentation, originality, synthesis and expressive richness.
Global assessment.
1. Written test on the theoretical, conceptual and methodological aspects of the different thematic blocks (50%).
2. Performance and presentation of a paper on an environmental problem (30%).
3. Students who are unable to attend the various practices foreseen in the continuous evaluation should contact with the teacher to establish a specific learning contract (20%).
Evaluation criteria: identical to those for continuous evaluation.
Second Call:
Overall assessment: identical to that of the first call.
