1. General information
This subject, consistent with the approach and general objectives of the Degree in History, aims to provide students with training in the field of modern history through the understanding of the historical facts produced in it ; the development of critical capacity in the reading of studies, texts and documents; and the proper use of the sources that serve for their knowledge. In relation to this, the subject is oriented so that the student achieves the learning results that are set for this subject.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations (2030 Agenda (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/).

2. Learning results
Identifies and describes the main historical facts, processes and factors, and establishes relationships between the political, cultural, social and economic levels of a society,
Evaluates with rigor the diverse sources and historiographic documents, develops and manages techniques and methods of study, and approaches the value of research of historical phenomena
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the interconnections that articulate past societies.
Understands the complexity of past social processes in terms of scale, i.e., is able to relate past historical processes to the present and to think critically about the social realities of the present and the past.

2. The Catholic Monarchs.
3. Economy and society in the 16th century.
4. Evolution of the Hispanic monarchy in the 16th century.
5. Spanish thought during the Renaissance and the Counter-Reformation.
6. The crisis of the economy and society in the 17th century.
7. Crisis and evolution of the Hispanic monarchy in the 17th century.
8. Thought and culture in Spain in the 17th century.
9. Economic growth and social development in the 18th century.
10. The enlightened reformism of the Bourbons.
11. The Enlightenment and the beginning of the end of the Ancien Régime.
4. Academic activities
- Classroom lectures in which the most relevant contents of the subject are explained, referring to the historical evolution of the field considered during the Modern Age.
- Practical activities that improve the ability to analyse documents, the production of oral and written presentations, and the progressive development of intellectual autonomy.
- Tutorial activity in which the teacher guides and stimulates the training activity, and helps to improve the exams and practical activities.
- Readings and personal work of each student oriented to the acquisition of information and the improvement of the student's ability to analyse facts and documents to achieve greater and greater intellectual autonomy.

5. Assessment system
First Call:
a) Continuous assessment (if applicable).
- Written or oral tests (50% of the grade): questions, analysis of documents or images related to the program. Knowledge of the subject, ability to analyse and relate, clarity and originality in the formulation of ideas, writing and spelling will be valued.
- Practical activities: text commentaries, documentaries or films, maps, reviews or essays and academic papers, (30% of the grade). Knowledge of the subject, the ability to organize, analyse and relate considered elements, clarity and originality in the formulation of ideas, writing and spelling, oral expression and the ability to work in a team and interact will be valued.
- Participation, (20% of the grade). Accredited active participation in the activities, positive attitude and motivation, shown in oral and written activities, will be valued. Students may also do other activities, in addition to the scheduled, in agreement with the teacher, which will also be assessed here.
b) Global Assessment (according to the date set in the academic calendar).
Exercise consisting of questions and analysis of documents or images related to the program. Knowledge of the subject matter , the ability to analyse and relate, clarity and originality in the formulation of ideas, writing and spelling will be valued. In the same test, if applicable, practical activities will be handed in and will be evaluated with the same grading criteria,(100% of the grade).
