1. General information
The goal is to study the psycho-educational treatment of hearing and language difficulties and their correct assessment; involving: understanding the acquisition, development and analysis of disorders and difficulties; designing assessments, interpreting the results and data (qualitative and quantitative); designing and planning intervention strategies and processes; collaborating with other teachers and professionals; advising families and tutors and interpreting reports.
These approaches and goals are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), so that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement: Goal 3: Health and wellness; Goal 4: Quality education; Goal 10: Reduction of inequalities.
2. Learning results
1. Knows the role of the hearing and language teacher in the field of language and hearing disorders and difficulties.
2. Knows the general and specific aspects of language and hearing disorders and develops sufficient skills to recognize the presence of alterations in these areas in their different manifestations, assessing their relevance.
3. Knows and is able to carry out the assessment process, establish the required intervention programsand develop the type of specialized assistance in different cases.
4. Be able to guide the teacher in the development and use of resources, activities and strategies that make possible the treatment in these disorders.
5. Be able to guide parents and tutors in developing communication skills with those children with difficulties, as well as to know how to make brief reports for other professionals who can contribute to the explanation and intervention of these difficulties in primary school children.
3. Syllabus
Block 1. Language disorders
Unit 1. Introduction: Normal and pathological language acquisition and development: classification and conceptual delimitation Unit 2. Evaluation of language disorders
Unit 3. Treatment of language disorders
Block 2. Hearing disorders
Unit 4. Study of hearing disorders: general classification, assessment, hearing disorders, identification of hearing loss; introduction to audiometry; development of language and communication and speech perception and production.
Unit 5. Methodological approaches and technical aids in the intervention and education of hearing impaired children at school.
4. Academic activities
Programmed learning activities may include the following elements:
- Lectures and expository sessions
- Resolution of case studies
- Discussions
- Large group presentations of practices and/or materials
- Listening / viewing of videos/audios /reports on different disorders/difficulties
- Reflection and critical discussion of texts, articles, resources and materials
- Individual/group work
- Talks, testimonials, visits to centers or associations with one or more professionals in Hearing and Speech Therapy Observation activities in natural contexts
- Generation of teaching materials according to the psycho-educational treatment
- ICT resources: social networks, Kahoot, flipped classroom
5. Assessment system
a) Continuous assessment:
a.1Continued work: The resulting grade may be derived from the completion of questionnaires, oral tests, reports of practices, individual and/or group work, among other activities to be determined by those responsible for the subject. The grade may account for 40% of the final grade.
a.2 Final evaluation test of the continued work (60%), which may have different formats:
- Resolution of case studies
- Project work
- Objective and/or developmental test
In order to follow the continuous evaluation it is necessary to complete all the tasks set out in a timely manner.
b) Overall assessment:
Students will have the right to a global assessment by means of a developmental test and/or a test-type examination and/or a case practical exam on all the contents of the subject in which they can opt for the maximum grade.
c) Fifth and sixth calls
a. Take the final test and the rest of the activities, which will be handed in to the examining board.
b. The court will establish the type of evaluation
Finally, it must be taken into account that the Regulations of the Norms of Coexistence of the University of Zaragoza will be applicable to the irregularities committed in the evaluation tests by means of academic fraud, as well as the application of article 30 of the Regulations of the Norms of Evaluation of Learning in relation to irregular practices other than academic fraud.
