1. General information
This subject is part of those offered in the degree oriented to the attainment of an elementary instrumental command of a second modern language. The main goal of this subject is to provide students with the necessary tools to reach a level of oral and written proficiency in French corresponding to level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It is followed by a Second Language II (French), with which it will be possible to reach level A2 of this framework.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations:
Goal 4: Quality Education.
Goal 5: Gender Equality.
Goal 10: Reduction of Inequalities
Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong institutions
Goal 17: Alliances to Achieve Goals.
2. Learning results
Upon completion of the subject, the student will be able to:
1. Communicate orally at an elementary level in French.
2. Communicate in written form at an elementary level in French.
3. Identify the nature, purpose and structure of simple documents written in French.
4. Understand very simple oral texts in French.
5. Understand very simple written texts in French.
6. Synthesize, transfer and exchange elementary information in written form in French.
7. Synthesize, transfer and exchange elementary information orally in French.
8. Write in French simple expressions and phrases specific to their area of specialization.
3. Syllabus
They will follow the manual Nouveau Rond-Point 1 (cf. recommended bibliography), units 1 to 6, whose contents deal with: -Basic phonetics
-Elementary grammar (the article, the noun, the adjective, the personal pronouns, the possessive adjective, the conjugation of the present tense of indicative of regular verbs and some frequently used irregular verbs, expression of negation, etc.). ) -Vocabulary from everyday life (introducing oneself and others, talking about one's family, giving spatial directions, telling the time, making an appointment, booking a hotel, shopping, describing one's place of residence and daily activities...)
4. Academic activities
The subject will be developed based on the teacher's presentation of theoretical-practical topics in class and the students' group and individual work, presented orally or in writing, as required. Due to the fundamentally practical orientation of the subject, the theoretical part focuses on specific aspects of phonetics and grammar of the French language for its application in everyday contexts.
Learning activities include the following: theoretical-practical classes, practical activities, study of the subject and preparation of activities outside the classroom, assessment tests
The teaching will be carried out with the support of the Nouveau Rond-Point 1 manual (cf. recommended bibliography).
5. Assessment system
FIRST CALL
Global evaluation test (100% of the final grade) to be held on the date established in the official academic calendar.
It consists of five parts (20% of the final grade each) that will deal with:
-Grammatical, lexical and discursive content
-Oral comprehension
-Reading comprehension
-Written expression
-Oral expression (monologue and interaction)
The following will be valued:
-Correctness of answers and knowledge of linguistic structures.
-The ability to understand and use frequently used everyday expressions and simple sentences aimed at satisfying immediate needs in oral and written texts
-The ability to introduce oneself and others, ask for and give basic personal information (address, belongings, people you know, etc.) orally and in writing.
-The ability to interact in an elementary way as long as your interlocutor speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to cooperate
It is a sine qua non condition to obtain a minimum score of 4 out of 10 in each of the tests in order for them to be averaged . When the subject cannot be passed due to the failure to achieve the minimum required in one or more of the five tests, the grade for the subject will be recorded as "4 FAIL". If the student does not reach a grade equal to 5 out of 10 in any of the tests, the grade will be the average of the grades obtained.
