1. General information
This subject is based on the existing need, for all health professionals, to be able to interpret and perform a correct epidemiological analysis and a critical reading of the scientific literature.
This subject provides knowledge of the basic instruments for the interpretation, control and evaluation of the main health problems that affect the population. . Studying this subject facilitates understanding the population point of view versus the individual ; health determinants and inequalities; constructing and interpreting demographic indicators; knowing the bases of research methodology and the principles of its application to act in the face of health problems. It also allows to know the characteristics of the health systems and the main physiotherapy programs recommended for a better care of the population.
Its approach and objectives contribute to the achievement of the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda, and more specifically, the SDG3: Health and wellness and 10: Reduction of inequalities
2. Learning results
This subject provides knowledge of the fundamental concepts related to health and disease; obtaining and analysing epidemiological data; using epidemiology to assess trends and risks; and critically reading the of the scientific literature in the field of physiotherapy; to learn about the health care system and the functions of the physiotherapist in it; to identify the preventive activities recommended for the main health problems related to physiotherapy, in primary and specialized care and the criteria for providing effective and quality physiotherapy care.

4. Academic activities
The learning process designed for this subject is based on the development of the following activities:
A- Face-to-face:
Master class (3 hours per week).
Expository and participative type.
Group and/or individual tutoring
Practical classes and seminars in small groups. Ten mandatory practical sessions are organized based on problem solving and case studies.
B- Non-face-to-face
Personal study of theoretical and practical content
Autonomous work.
The detailed organization of the activities (days and time slot) will be carried out in accordance with the organization of the Degree.
Attendance and participation in the scheduled classroom sessions is recommended, as well as the completion of the individual work foreseen . In previous years we have seen how learning and the achievement of results is clearly favoured with the follow-up and use of the activities proposed.
Key dates and all complementary information will be available in the course ADD (Anillo Digital Docente).
5. Assessment system
There will be a final written test on the contents of the program.
Format:
- 30 multiple-choice questions on the theoretical and practical contents of the classroom sessions and 10 multiple-choice /short questions related to the problems and cases studied in the subject. A minimum grade of 15 points in the theoretical part and 5 points in practical content is required , and both parts must be passed.
Errors on the test will subtract 0.25 points. It represents: 60% of the overall grade.
In the July call: identical characteristics.
- Resolution of exercises, reports and other work proposed in the subject. The material presented, the ability to search and synthesize information, bibliography consultation and selection of relevant web pages will be evaluated. It represents:30 % of the overall grade
- In addition, participation in different voluntary activities that will be carried out throughout the term will be valued , both on-site and off-site: completion of self-evaluation activities before the corresponding theoretical class, collaboration in activities in theoretical classes, attendance to voluntary seminars... Depending on the activities programmed for each term, this increase in the grade will mean a maximum of 10% additional to the final grade.
It is foreseen that students who cannot attend the practical activities and those who are not satisfied with the grade obtained, will sit for a global exam of the subject, which will allow them to verify that they have achieved the expected learning results.
