1. General information
Specific training subject of the first year of the degree that initiates students in the intervention of Physiotherapy. The assessment is the first phase of the Physiotherapy Intervention Process. During the assessment process, the necessary data are collected and recorded to obtain clear and objective information on the state of health of a person, in order to understand the physical causes of the problems or alterations that are susceptible to physiotherapeutic treatment , considering their physical, psychological and social aspects.
It is considered of interest to have acquired previous theoretical and practical knowledge of basic training subjects, especially anatomy and physiology.
The acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute, to some extent, to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030:
Goal 3: Health and Wellness. GOAL: To ensure healthy living and promote wellness for all at all ages.
Goal 10: Reduction of Inequalities GOAL: Reducing inequalities and ensuring that no one is left behind.
2. Learning results
The general objective of the subject is to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge, abilities, skills and attitudes that will guarantee the correct application of the basic assessment methods and procedures and their clinical interpretation in order to subsequently describe the functional diagnosis in physiotherapy.
In order to achieve the expected learning results, it is recommended to train, from the beginning, the practical skills and abilities worked on in the classes.
The student must demonstrate achievement of the following results:
1. -Knows and understands the characteristics, stages and resources of the assessment process in Physiotherapy.
2. -Understands the theoretical and practical bases of the different procedures, methods, tests and functional tests used in the assessment of physical therapy.
3. -Discriminates and identifies the different tissues and structures as well as their characteristics.
4. -Identifies the dysfunctions and alterations of the different tissues and structures.
5. -Applies the appropriate assessment procedures directed to the tissues and structures addressed in the subject
6. -Performs a basic analysis of the findings found in the assessment process as a basis for the establishment of the Functional Diagnosis of Physiotherapy.
3. Syllabus
This subject covers the following thematic blocks:
BLOCK 1. Assessment as part of the intervention process in physiotherapy. Characteristics, stages and resources in the assessment process in Physiotherapy. Physiotherapy diagnosis.
BLOCK 2. The physiotherapist in the Physiotherapy Assessment process.
BLOCK 3. Clinical interview. Data register. Physiotherapy clinical history.
BLOCK 4. Assessment procedures in Physiotherapy: static postural analysis, dynamic mobility tests, evaluative palpation, muscular and myofascial assessment, orthopaedic and functional tests.
BLOCK 5. Assessment and functional diagnosis of tissues and structures of the musculoskeletal system.
BLOCK 6. Bases of functional diagnosis in physiotherapy.
4. Academic activities
The program offered to the student to help them achieve the expected results includes the following activities 1. Theoretical, expository and participative classes: 15 hours (100% attendance)
2. Room practice demonstration 30 hours (100% attendance)
3. Theoretical and practical seminars: 5 hours (100% attendance)
4. Case resolution seminars: 10 hours (Attendance 50%)
5. Student group work: 20 hours (0% attendance)
6. Student's autonomous work: 70 hours (0% attendance)
The learning process that has been designed for this subject is based on a combination of the following teaching methodologies:
1. Explanatory and participative classes
2. Laboratory practices/demonstration room/computer classroom
3. Theoretical and practical seminars
4. Exemplification and case studies
5. Review of works
6. Individual elaboration of a Field Diary/Critical Sheet
These methodologies are based on:
- Explanation and orientation for the personal study of the different contents of the subject, directing it towards the overcoming of the indicated learning results and the acquisition of the competences of the subject.
- Training in static and dynamic visual postural and movement assessment. Training in basic palpatory skills and in the systematic recording of significant data from the information collected.
Development of interpersonal relationship skills.
- Learning, through practical cases, of the application of the assessment process in Physiotherapy in an individual form , especially the recording of data in the clinical history of Physiotherapy. It aims to stimulate the initiative and personal creativity, developing the ability to manage and record information, as well as the handling of documentary sources.
The student must be responsible for the personal study of the theoretical and practical contents developed in the subject, as well as for the preparation of work, research of documentation and all those non face-to-face activities that will guide them towards the acquisition of the specific competences.
5. Assessment system
The student must demonstrate that they have achieved the expected learning results by means of the following assessment activities.
OPTION A: CONTINUOUS EVALUATION. In order to pass the subject through continuous evaluation, it will be necessary to pass each of the following evaluation tests::
1. Progress tests: Weighting on the final grade: 60%
Practical test: The capacity of practical application of the theoretical and practical contents of the whole subject will be evaluated.
2. Presentation and defence of papers and reports Weighting on the final grade: 30%
The student should record the daily practice in the Practicum Notebook. The following items should be included:
a. -Physiotherapy clinical history: Record of the findings found in the evaluation process carried out to a classmate.
b. -Functional diagnosis
c. Personal contributions and reflection on practice: including relationships between the dysfunctions found in the
valuation.
The following will be assessed: Clarity and order in the presentation. Ability to organize and plan information. Adequate expression of the findings found. Capacity for analysis and synthesis of information Creativity.
3. Continuous evaluation (follow-up of participation in activities programmed in the subject): Weighting on the final grade: 10%
In order to pass the subject, attendance to at least 80% of the practical sessions and seminars will be evaluated. The grade will depend on the monitoring of the student's participation during each practicum.
OPTION B: Students who do not take the continuous evaluation option may take the following evaluation tests at the official calls:
Final exam and theoretical and practical progress tests. Weighting on the final grade: 100%
