1. General information
- The mind-body problem and its implications for cognitive science. To know the responses it has historically received - To question the old popular psychological notions related to the immateriality and immortality of the soul.
- Criticism of the assumptions of certain materialistic approaches.
- To take part in current debates and to cooperate in interdisciplinary work on the mind and intelligence.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/):

2. Learning results
The student, in order to pass this subject, must demonstrate the following results...
- To understand the most important concepts and theories of the history of philosophy, relating them to others of the same or different periods
-To understand the fundamental concepts and theories of philosophical thought, knowing how to relate them to each other and to those of the various branches of philosophy
- To be able to analyse the structure of complex and controversial problems, detecting, formulating and proposing alternative approaches to philosophical problems in various fields of society, science and culture, both historical and contemporary
-To use the knowledge acquired to illuminate and evaluate the problems raised by contemporary science
-To handle the scientific methodology in its analytical and synthetic aspects, induction and deduction.

2. The philosophical study of the mind.

- Against the mind-computer metaphor

5. Consciousness and its place in nature.
- Definition of consciousness.
- Qualia and consciousness.
4. Academic activities
Methodology of knowledge construction always seeking student participation.
- Theoretical classes. Lectures by the teacher and dialogue: some texts will be presented and discussed
- Directed works. Students will choose a topic and texts to work on from those listed in the bibliography. The teacher will supervise the choice of the topic, the bibliography and the outline of the work, at the beginning.
- Seminars/Practices Participation of students, who will work on the topics of their choice individually, will write summaries and will present the approaches, arguments and results of their small research.
5. Assessment system
I. FIRST CALL
a. Continuous assessment system:
1.Completion of an essay on one of the topics offered in Annex I of the program. The essay must have a minimum of 8 pages and a maximum of 12 pages (70% of the final grade)..
2.Annotated summary of the works included in the bibliography of the first two headings and underlined in bold. The length in both cases should not exceed 6 pages or be less than 5. (30% of the final grade).
b. Global assessment test (to be taken on the date established in the academic calendar)
